On The Couch Today

When we think of big names affiliated with Facebook, we generally think of Mark Zuckerberg (The list stops there). But have you ever heard the name Sheryl Sandberg?
She was a huge part of the #BanBossy movement launched a couple of months ago with Beyoncé, Arne Duncan, Condoleezza Rice, Diane von Furstenberg, Jennifer Garner and more.

New Stuff Coming!!!

Let me start off by thanking the people who have read and shared my various posts so far. I’m really hoping that you are enjoying yourself and the content I’m bringing you. I’ve been trying to keep it entertaining as well as touch on some hard hitting topics with a dash of a few glimpses into my journey. And this is only the beginning, so I send my BIGGESTTT appreciations your way; for being here now, and here’s to hoping you stick around for what’s to come.

Now, on to the NEW STUFF news:

Every week, I will bring to the couch a delightfully inspirational and kick-ass woman (and the occasional male) from all over the world right here on PL’s couch; which could also mean your couch, or your office chair, whatever works. It’s my, slightly longer, version of Woman Crush Wednesday aka #WCW. This new feature will be titled On The Couch Today, and it will be a sub-menu item, under the menu item The Couch (duh). So you’ll be able to find all of the posts easily over time.

I think this is an exciting new feature, not only because this will feature women that we all likely know, but it could be your mom, or your dad, or your teachers, etc. This can go on forever. And it will as long as you’re right here with me. Show someone you care about, or look up to, a little appreciation by sending me an email with information, perhaps a picture, and I’d love to share it.

This will include the likes of Gloria Steinam, Ashton Kutcher, Oprah, Adele, Pharrell, Beyonce, Michelle Obama, Tupac, Hillary Clinton, Sheryl Sandberg, P!nk, Brene Brown, John Legend, (your mom’s name here), (my mom’s name here), (YOU), etc, etc, etc!!! My head is going to explode from all of the awesome people who have paved the way before us, during our generations and for our future generations. WOOO! I have my work cut out for me! But I’m SUPER excited about digging into it!

Please join in on the discussion on the couch to discuss these women, and the reasons they are an inspiration to you. Or maybe tell me why you don’t agree with it. Whatever works for you.

It launches on the first Wednesday of May; May 7, 2014. PLEASE DON’T FORGET TO STOP BY!!!

Share this as many times as you possibly can. I’m looking for inspiration to inspire you!

It’s About Humanity

It's A Fight For Humanity

I was asked recently what attracted me to Feminism. My answer: I opened my eyes. I saw what women have gone through in order for a woman like me to be here today. Accredited to both my Ancestors and the women who’ve fought the Feminist fight. Not just a fight for equality for women, but for humankind’s injustice. I don’t necessarily consider myself a full on feminist as my goal is to attempt to remedy injustice in every way. I am – right now – pulled more towards the battles within the women’s community. We are so quick to tear one another down without ever having a true reason to.

As I don’t know what my specific role within this “battle” is right now, but I am aware. More aware than I’ve ever been. And I don’t mind bringing along and uplifting people throughout my journey. I aim to only be a motivation and positive “lite” to every path I cross. Not to condemn man or make women more important than man. Just to inspire and bring awareness to the unseen.

This reminds me of the quote I grew up hearing, “a closed mouth doesn’t get fed”.

Knowledge is just another form of hunger. When you are hungry you should ask the questions needed until you feel satiated.
